A Look at the Spinach with Indian Cottage Cheese Gravy /Palak Paneer Recipe

Spinach/Palak paneer is one of the famous cuisines of northern India. It is very delicious as well as it is a very healthy recipe too. Spinach is a great source of iron and it also contains beneficial minerals like vitamins A, C, B6, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and in this recipe Paneer/cottage cheese is also used, which is a high source of protein. This recipe is very beneficial for our body. So let’s start making it.

How to make Spinach with Indian Cottage Cheese Gravy

For how many people: 5

Difficulty in making: low

Meal Type: Vegetarian

Ingredients required:

Spinach/Palak: 500 grams

Indian Cottage Cheese/Paneer : 500 grams

Tomato: 4 medium size

Onion: 2

Garlic: 8 buds

Green Chillies: 2

Cumin: 1 teaspoon

Red chilli powder: half a teaspoon

Turmeric: half a teaspoon

Salt: as per taste

Garam masala powder: 1/4 teaspoon

Refined / Mustard Oil: 2 tsp

Ghee: 2 teaspoons (optional)


Note: If you do not use onion and garlic, you can skip the garlic in whole process and use cumin seeds instead of onion.

Spinach Paneer Recipe:

    • Firstly, wash the spinach and put 4 garlic cloves and a pinch of turmeric in it and boil it in a cooker or pan. It will boil in only one whistle. Now cool it slightly and make puree in the grinder.
    • In the next step, grind tomatoes and puree it.
    • Now add the onion and fry it till it gets golden brown. Now add turmeric and red chilli powder and cook for 5 minutes on medium flame.
    • Now mix tomato puree in the tempering and cook for 7 to 10 minutes. Once the masala is cooked, add salt and garam masala and cook it for the another 5 minutes.
    • Now add the prepared spinach puree, mix well and cook for 10 minutes until the bubbles come out.
    • Now mix the cottage cheese/paneer cubes. Cook it for about 7 to 10 minutes too then turn off the gas.
    • I am doing another step here which is completely optional. You may skip it if you do not like ghee.
